The Weekly Press of September 9th, 1921 reported a unique wedding celebration at Coalgate. The headline read "A happy pair wedded on the Silver Wedding day of the bride's parents and the Golden Wedding day of her grandparents." The report continued "Very seldom does it fall to the lot of the bride to have such an auspicious occasion for her wedding as fell to Jean Primrose, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. Pearson, Glenrose, Coalgate, who was married to Cecil Daniel, second son of Mr and Mrs F. D. McGarry, of Islington, on June 2nd 1921. The wedding day was the Silver wedding of her parents and the Golden wedding of her grandparents Mr and Mrs Thomas Brown. The ceremony was performed by the Rev J.J. Bates at 11.30 am at St Andrews Church, Glentunnel. Mr and Mrs Thomas Brown of Coalgate were married on June 2nd 1871 at Flemington, Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and came to New Zealand in the ship Glenmark on her last voyage 1871. The bride's parents, Mr and Mrs Pearson of Coalgate were married June 2nd 1899."
