Golf facilities close to the heart of Christchurch are to be swelled by the const ruction of a course at  Weedons. A club has formed and work is proceeding on the conversion of 63 acres of the Weedons domain to a nine-hole course.

The club was born at a meeting of Weedons residents who wished to supplement the recreational facilities of the district, since then a constitution has been adopted and officers elected; the president is a Paparua County Councillor. Mr Manion, under whose sponsorship the idea of development of the domain originated.

Membership preference is to be given to people within the boundaries of the Paparua, Malvern and Ellesmere. Weedons is 13 miles from Cathedral Square, and the new course will be one mile from the main south road. The domain is the home of the Weedons Cricket Club, one of the oldest in the country.

The course will be sheltered and a club house is to be built.

It will be some time before the first round are played at Weedons and in the meantime, the activities of the members are concerned chiefly with money and manpower. Constructing a course from undeveloped land and raising the necessary finance are big undertakings, but an exellent spirit among the members is obvious and the determination to build a worthwhile organisation is evident.
