The electrification of the main south railway line between Rolleston and Christchurch was a possibility when the new town was developed at Rolles-ton, said the Minister of Works and Development (Mr Watt) yesterday.

Asked if communications would not have to be improved with Christchurch, he said that electrified railway services would provide fast running.

The Southern Motorway, on present plans many years away from completion to a point near Weedons, should also be brought up in priority, said the Minister.

With better road and rail links, the new town should have excellent transport facilities.
