Movable School on the Midland Railway.

Caption

Movable school on the Midland Railway Co-operative works, Springfield: The scholars and other children on the works. The state school on the Midland Railway works at Patterson's Creek is a somewhat unique educational building in that it has been so constructed that it can be taken to pieces in sections. This plan was found necessary on account of the population from which the scholars are drawn being a moving one and advancing as the works are completed in one place to suitable sites further on. Our Illustration depicts a group of the scholars attending the school and other children on the works. Mr Tregent is in charge of the school, the average attendence at which at the present is about 21, but this is likely to be raised shortly to about thirty-one. The school was built by the Public Works department, The North Canterbury Education Board supplying the teacher.
