The annual treat in connection with the Hororata School took place on Friday. Athletic sports for the children were held in the afternoon. Before dispersing, every child who had attended the school since July 1, 1897, received a present. These were distributed by Sir John Hall, who gave the children a short account of the Jubilee procession.

Special prizes were awarded to Minnie Hartnell (first) and to Nellie Hartnell (second), for darning; to Minnie Hartnell (first) and Florrie Chapman (second), for button-holing , to Minnie Hartnell (first) and Nellie Hartnell (second), for stitching, and to Rhoda Fuller, for attendance. The refreshments, provided by Mr Batstone, of Xiv We p, gave general satisfaction. Cheers for the teachers, the School Committee and Sir John Hall brought a very successful gathering to a close.
