The new library caters for all sectors of the growing Rolleston community and the collection is continually being extended. Along with extensive adult fiction and non-fiction sections, the library has a large children's selection including picture books and books for new readers, a youth zone for the 12-to 15-year-old age group, a collection of books to help parents and children deal with sensitive issues such as divorce and bereavement, and a wide selection of the latest magazines.

Using the OPAC computer system, Rolleston Library members can also access books held in the Selwyn District Council's other libraries at Lincoln, Leeston, and Darfield, as well as any books held in libraries throughout New Zealand. If a book is available for loan, the Rolleston Library can get it from other Selwyn district libraries by the next day.

Along with books, the library has CD-Roms with encyclopaedias and interactive games for children. There are videos, CDs, and talking books for adults and children. Internet access is available, and library assistants are happy to help people access the system.

A school holiday programme held in April attracted about 50 children, and the library plans to make these a regular feature. The library is also popular with children after school, particularly with those wanting to use books and the Internet to help them with their homework. Along with librarian Judith Wenborn, library assistants John Park, Chrissie Avis, and Warwick Robinson, the library is staffed by volunteers, making it a true community centre.

Anita Lewis also operates her brightly coloured mobile library from the Rolleston Library. Anita travels throughout the district from Arthurs Pass to Greenpark, and Prebbleton to Dunsandel, lending books, videos, CDs, and magazines.

The library is located in the Rolleston Community Centre building. Membership is free to all Selwyn District residents.
